About Acupuncture

about acupunctureAcupuncture a system of complementary medicine that involves pricking the skin or tissues with needles, used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions. Originating in ancient China, acupuncture is now widely practiced in the West.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that is less about needles and more about energy. When a person is healthy, qi (life energy) flows freely through a network of channels, called meridians, through the body. When these channels are blocked, sickness or pain is the result.

The benefit of acupuncture, through the stimulation of the body’s energy points, is to trigger the natural healing process to restore the body’s natural equilibrium.

The needles are very fine and each one is sterile. Often you won’t feel them but you will experience different sensations once they start working. This might be a sense of fullness, heaviness or an ache in the area where you are being needled (or sometimes in other parts of the body). If a particular muscle is being treated, you might feel a strong contraction, which indicates finding the right spot.

Most clients report a sense of relaxation and calmness.
